After several decades, the insurance sector is in for some competition. The insurance sector has hitherto been monopolised by the State in India. The liberalization of the insurance sector by permitting 26% in the insurance sector is a step in the right direction and has to be taken in perspective, given the wide disparities in the socio-economic sector of the country.
